Totally centralized control of all spheres of people lives. State terror and mass repressions, outdated economic models that make the lives of the people harder. The crushing of the previous form of democracy, a cult of power (the power is introduced as God), denial of human rights and democratic procedures.
There is also the propaganda of the regime – telling Belarusians and the world that all is right with the country and that all opposing opinions are from enemies of the state. (The regime now classifies virtually all civilized countries as enemies). Even though there is a Democratic Constitution, its articles are relevant only on paper. Even elections to parliament and local government – institutions without real power which are fully under the regimes control - were falsified as the count was influenced by the regime.
But propaganda alone is not enough for the regime to control the populace – it uses terror and repression. To justify it’s dictatorship it uses a concept of ‘enemies’: all who disagree are enemies, spies.
Any activity against the regime in Belarus can be easily controlled by the executive – there is no safe place for independent people. Many young people have been sent to prison for political crimes: for picketing, demonstrating, writing pamphlets or even a poem. If the secret police were not able to imprison or kill a person, it could ruin their life: by preventing their employment, having students expelled, threatening their families.
This regime uses terrible methods and it makes life of Belarusians horrible!
